[Naoya and Dilandau are safely behind bars in the tunnels, secured and locked away with no weapons.   And right now he made sure to take every key to the prisons and secure the entrance with a padlock of his own. It should be strong enough to hold anyone attempting to break them out for now.

First thing's first. He needs to track down the woman named Yuzu that Naoya spoke to. She did not sympathize with him, but knows of him and his weapon system.  Possessing Dilandau's COMP, he will actively seek her out for questioning and follow up on any leads he can.]

[Voice]

[After speaking with Yuzu and following up where the leads take him, Batman will reluctantly open a voice communication. Someone has to make the announcement.   He's not much of a talker and he's never been good with people. But it needs to be done.]

Attention, citizens of Luceti. Dilandau and Naoya have been detained in the murder of Kohaku, a fellow citizen of Luceti.   They will remain in custody until such a time that the people of this village agree on a just punishment or until they are properly tried by a court of law.   That is all.

[Now there's a pleasant surprise. As Dilandau's original warning was locked from him, Ginko has only just caught up with unfolding events. Mildly--]

...and what exactly makes for justice in a world without death-- where "detainment" is just a prison within a prison?

Society cannot expect to function without just punishment for those who would hurt others. The important thing is the people must decide what the law is. And therefore the proper punishment.

And imprisoned though we are, that fact does not change. Judgement is not mine to pass. I bring criminals to face their judgement in the eyes of their peers.

[He listens to this statement with some interest. What a thing to say.]

I'd be curious to see the people here decide together on anything-- let alone the penalty for murder.

You bring criminals to face judgment--hnn. It sounds like you're speaking of a world with a function system of justice. But...what do you intend to do with them here? Imprison them indefinitely?

Not for me to decide. And I would hope it would not come to something like that.

[He doesn't want to have to traipse back and forth to the tunnels delivering meals every day forever, anyway.

So what do you intend to do? Were you collaborating with someone to bring them in?

[a disgruntled sigh, followed by a pause and he draws up an unhackable filter]

This ...isn't really any of my business.

But I've spoken with Dilandau on a few occasions-- and it honestly surprised me that he went through with murder, here. Especially of a woman, although he seemed to have some odd loathing for angels.

[a pause] Even though it's clear that he has some free will of his own-- his mind is broken. I was informed by someone from his world that he was subjected to experimentation as a child.

For as much of this is his own fault...the idea that he's being used as a tool for murder by more intelligent individuals ....it doesn't sit well with me.

I acted alone.

I'm aware of Dilandau's mental instability, but I was not aware of its source. But rest assured. Naoya will not walk simply because Dilandau was the one who committed the act.

Mmm. You sound accustomed to work like this.

[a grunt at that.] I'd be more worried about it happening again. Dilandau has been speaking to Kefka, as well.

Not surprising. The man has an obsession with magic. Kefka is a like-minded individual with a taste for destruction. Dilandau would be the perfect puppet for a man like Kefka.

We'll have to see to it that he does not get the oppurtunity to fall under his influence.

[The longer you talk the less your sharpness surprises him. What kind of job did you used to do, anyway?]

No doubt. Though I fear it's too late for that... Dilandau is already fond of him, judging by what he's said to me. [Ginko shakes his head] Dilandau isn't completely unhinged. I lived with him for a few days-- and he was fine. A brat, but not dangerous at all.

[a pause. Quietly] ...why Kohaku?

She was Naoya's target. From what I understand, he made an attempt on her life before and failed. This time he didn't want her to slip away.

A man of Naoya's level of madness cares little for life or anything that represents the force of good. Kohaku is an angel, a living symbol of holiness and light. To him, extinguishing that light brought him a powerful sense of self-satisfaction and an elevation above that of a mere mortal.

[...Scared yet, Ginko?]

[The mushi-master has seen too much humanity for evil to be very surprising. The image imprint merely shows him nod. And what is fear to thwart curiosity?]

Hnn. Those are signs and symbols outside of my experience-- but I'm afraid that the concept you describe is not. [a thoughtful pause] Is Naoya physically dangerous-- or possessed of some kind of power? I'd be surprised if he really needed Dilandau to do the killing for him. I was under the impression that the boy is none too strong without his world's weapons.

He didn't. He just didn't want to be implicated in it by the letter of law.

[Dryly.] Yeah. Because the letter of the law is so universal in this place.

So he isn't personally dangerous? [not letting go of that]

...He is mentally unbalanced to a marked degree. I would classify him as a deranged psychotic. He might be powerless without his device, but he would become a threat the moment he obtained a weapon of any sort.

[Darkly:]

He is very dangerous.

Hnn. [Ginko can't argue with that. Even he privately thinks people just need to learn how to talk to the kid without setting him off.]

What kind of dangerous?-- it seems you managed to capture and contain them both on your own power.

Too dangerous to be trusted around the common individual here in Luceti.

Mm. [Terse on that subject, or as yet uninformed. He'll let it go.]

Do you intend to let everyone know when the situation changes? Are you the only one insuring that they stay imprisoned?

I have some associates that will make sure they stay put. And if situations change, the villagers will be informed.
