[It's been a week now since Bruce landed in Luceti. Being the detective he is renowned for back home, he was quick to study Luceti, the guide, and other aspects about the place as quickly as he could. Being caught unprepared might be lethal. So when he was confident he had absorbed enough through the guide, simple experimentation, and the like, he decided to strike it out and learn more about the people here. He already discovered the existence of something called a "Justice League" here, but there was only one name that rung a bell. Superman. He didn't know who the Man of Steel was, save that he was a metahuman from Metropolis. Relatively speaking, he was a new guy. For now, though, he was going to avoid contact with him if at all possible. If he was from his world, he might recognize him as Bruce Wayne, something he didn't want to risk.

Especially considering his Batman gear hadn't shown up yet. Bruce was doing his best to gather supplies under the radar in case they didn't show up, but given Luceti's low-tech level, getting most of the gear he was acclimated to would be difficult without help. But that wasn't about to stop him.

But either way. Bruce will be wondering around Luceti for most of today, loitering at the library to read some, stopping by Good Spirits for a cup of coffee, browsing the stores, and making a stop at the Smithy. He's a man on a mission. Meet people, learn more about this place if at all possible. And to play up his act a bit more, if you're a beautiful woman, expect him to be extra polite. And don't be offended if he doesn't introduce himself as Bruce Wayne... a man has to be extra cautious in the unknown.]

[ she slips behind the bar and deposits a few empties collected from a table across the room. ]

Black's fine, miss...?

[ she smirks over her shoulder while attending to the coffee machine. ] Buffy Summers. You've got that new car smell equivalent thing going on. [ that is -- she's been around long enough that not many people need to ask her name. ] Just landed?

[He gives a light chuckle and a smile back at the remark. This one's got wit, it seems.]

Last week. Name's Gaff Morgan.

Gaff, huh? [ quite the name. but then again, who is she to criticize on odd names? buffy reaches to her left for a nice, wide mug. ]

Sorry about that...I doubt bizarro wing world was really part of your vacation plans.

Can't say it was. So, any pearls of wisdom for a little bird who hasn't had his first real flight yet?

[ she pours the cup of coffee with a steady, familiar hand. ] Don't lose the wings, for one thing. That's kind of a big one. But -- as far as wisdom pearls go they're usually oh-so-far removed from anything resembling either wisdom or pearls.

[ she pops the mug onto a saucer and slides the two across the bar top to 'guff'. ] But tip number one? Always stay on your barmaid's good side.

[He raises the mug in a toast to her when it slides in front of her.]

I wouldn't really know...here is kind of my first real beverage serving gig. [ a beat. ] So enjoy the coffee and please remember that there's no actual money to sue anyone for, here -- just in case you get food poisoning or something.

[ this is like a crash course in buffy summers humour. in truth, the coffee won't be so bad. it won't be amazing, but it won't be bad. ]

I'll keep that in mind. [And he takes a sip of the coffee.] Though I would hope that's not part of some diabolical scheme perpetuated by whoever is in charge here.

The money thing? Oh. It's diabolical -- they wanna keep their captives comfy, I guess.

I meant the food poisoning. Not having money is something I might just be able to get used to.

Oh -- no the food poisoning would just be all my particular brand of incompetent. But the money thing? It's nice. Niceish. Refreshing, I guess, to not be hounded for bills.

Or taxes.

Taxes are just one of those things I forget to be thankful to not pay in this place.

Guess the expression about "death and taxes" isn't really appropriate for a place like this one.

[The witty quip is perhaps a tad dark, but it's said with a hint of amusement rather than gallows humor. And then he takes a sip of that coffee again.]

You know about the whole death-cheating thing here, right?

It's something I've heard about. To hear they have such power over life and death... that's a disturbing proposition.

I'm not so sure it's them. More like this place...I mean, they're subject to it too.

Are people any closer to figuring out a way out of this than they were when this mess started? Whenever that was?

Information-wise? We get more crumbs than slices.

So it's like trying to put together a chandelier.

But all the pieces are broken?

I...guess. [ she falters. ] If the chandelier was also on fire and maybe the pieces are from two different chandeliers.
