First Night [Action]

[In the middle of the previous night, a note will be left under the door of Clark Kent. It reads as follows:]

Clark,

There are urgent matters to discuss. Be on top of Community Housing 7 at midnight.

[The note is not signed and not dated. Mysterious letter is mysterious. The only question is whether or not Clark will meet him there at the appropriate time. As for the rest of the night before then, Batman will keep tabs on Luceti. He's looking for anyone in particular he might find useful. If you want to be shadowed by this vigilante or speak with him feel free to be out and about minding your own business. Don't worry about finding him. He'll find you.

Be warned, he may not even stop to talk if he doesn't want to. That's just how he is.]

[How about when an authorative, no-nonsense voice is thrown in with it?]

Trust me. You don't.

[Now, Molly isn't scared of much. She faced down Mr. Wilder calmly, despite the helpless act she threw up. She stood her ground when a monster the size of Godzilla was about to step on her.

But that voice? Makes her straighten up a bit.]

Fuh... Fine. I'll take your word for it, I guess.

[Okay, that's not normal at all. Clearly something is up with this man. The feral tracking, the devouring of raw game? But what? Still... he didn't appear to be mentally unbalanced or sociopathic. He's a man to watch, but for now, Batman's going to take his leave. There will be more to look into later, no doubt...]

Good.

[He'll slide out a little further. Recognize him now, Molly?]

[Kurtis is out and about tonight, patrolling the town in the wake of the recent attacks. He's probably pretty hard to miss. From Community House 1 he'll first go to the square.]

[And now she can see his outline as well as parts of his costume. Oh yeah, she recognizes this. Excuse her slack jaw and wide eyes.]

Oh. My. Gosh.

[...Well, she clearly is familar with Batman. Maybe she was from Metropolis after all. Right now, he says nothing and just waits for her to compose herself.]

[A green... penguin. Thing. He saw this creature on the journals before, initially thinking it was someone's idea of a disguise. But it seems this "Kurtis" fellow was, in fact, real.

He's watching you from one of the rooftops in the square, Kurtis. He's concealed quite well, but do your Defender senses tingle?]

[You might have to wait a while, Batman. Molly rushes up until she's a few feet in front of him and stands up on her toes, a big grin on her face.]

You're Batman! Is Robin around here? Or maybe Nightwing! Oh I love Nightwing! Are you gonna get a new Batca-

[And now she gasps and clasps her hands over her mouth. Superman accepted it well, but, well... Batman's a bit of a scary guy.]

[He will frown at her, and narrow his eyes slightly. Personal space, Molly. Batman likes a lot of it. But it seems like she got the picture before too long, so his expression will ease slowly back to neutrality.]

You've heard of me. How?

[Kurtis is particularly on edge tonight, but even so it's a while before he gets the sense that someone is following him. He keeps walking for a little while to make absolutely certain then stops and, without turning, he calls out.]

You can come out now. I know you're there.

[...Every bit as good as he sounded. Impressed, Batman glides down from the one of the buildings, landing in the shadows near Kurtis. Well enough that anyone else in the square probably missed him.]

[And from the shadows, Kurtis can probably make out most of his form, even if it's not most of his features. Your move, Defender.]

[Riiight, she's backing up a couple of steps.]

Uh...

[He won't approach. He's not looking to scare her too much more than he already had. ...She hadn't done anything wrong, either. But he'll wait until she answers the question before taking another action.]

[Well, she told Superman... It wouldn't be long until he got the information from him, she knows that much, at least. Might as well hear it from her instead. So, she holds her hands behind her back and glances away.]

I... kinda think there's some kinda mutant who likes to travel between worlds and stalk other super heroes and write stories about them.

[Kurtis watches the figure. Human-shaped with long ears or perhaps horns. It had seemed almost bat-like when it leaped from the building. It was not someone Kurtis recognized]

Who are you? An enemy would have attacked by now.

[...A strange answer. Had he been in Gotham, this would've earned her a dark frown and menacing approach. But here, people came from all manner of universes. He'll just stay put.

It sounded like she was suggesting that he was a storybook character. ...And he wasn't the only one. That meant that it was likely Clark was too. It would explain why she was so anxious to meet him. ...And of course, this meant she knew who both Clark and himself really were. ...Wouldn't hurt to be sure, though. She clearly wasn't out to cause trouble for anyone.]

Doubtful. But you're implying I'm a fictional character in your world?

Yeah. But you're right here and real! And Superman! And there are people like... like Digimon and Sonic and everything! So... I don't think you guys are fictional anymore. I mean, I might be a comic book character out there. [Grin!] Wouldn't that be awesome!?

[He'll unhelpfully answer from the shadows in his normal Batman voice. Though it's the sort of tone he would use with Commissioner Gordon, not a rogue or thug.]

Someone not unlike yourself, Defender of Earth.

[...Time to change the subject. That was everything he needed to know.]

Your power. It amplifies your physical strength at your will?

[Awwww, and she was about to tell him how he was her favorite. But she still smiles.]

Uh-huh. It's why I'm called Princess Powerful! [Her eyes glow a pink color at that. She won't mention that she can't quite control the strength of her power, even though Senel's trying to teach her.]

Someone who protects the innocent, then? But why would you be following me?

[Who was this man? A New Feather who'd heard of Kurtis from one of the others?]
